candida: clear and white.

H. arachnoidea 'candida' belongs to the setata group. It is dark green plant with very prominent white bristles. In cultivation it forms almost "white balls" and belongs to the very attractive arachnoidea plants. They remain usually solitairy, seldomly start to offsett.

Distribution map

H. arachnoidea 'candida' is know only from Ladismith area. In same area grows as well H. arachnoidea var. nigricans and H. mucronata var. inconfluens. From other Haworthia species you can find here as well H. scabra and viscosa.

Previously it was described as arachnoidea var. setata. It grows on its Western distribution limit. Hayashi first use name 'lanata' for this plant, but later he renamed it as 'candida'. To be honest, I´m not 100% sure it deserves own status (from setata), but for now I will publish it here. At least I can show you beautiful plant!

There is one more record of setata plant from Cogmanskloof, further to the West - this was described as 'cogmanensis'. Again, I´m not sure about the name, (to me it is a nice form of setata) but I will publish it in separed article as well.

In cultivation it grows like other arachnoidea, it needs more shady condition and be carefully with overwatering - it can easily loose the roots. Propagation should be done by seed.
