H. mirabilis var. badia is one of the most beautifull species from mirabilis group. It is a quit robust, usually solitairy species. Leaves are attenuate, colour is shiny brown when grows on full sun. It grows in sandstone derived depauperate clay. In habitat you can find it under low fynbos vegetation or amongs small pebbles and grass.


Map of distribution

H. mirabilis var. badia is know from two localities W. Napier. Type locality was nearly destroyed by quarrying activities and also invasion by alien vegetation. There are some plants still surviving around the quarry and higher up on the hill and near the top. On the second locality "Sanfointein" is the popualtion healthy and numerous. Nearby is locality of H. mirabilis var. triebneriana, but they are well separated from each other. Although on the second locality were observed plants, which showed signs of triebneriana.

H. mirabilis var. badia is a slow growing species, which should be propagated by seeds or leave cuttings. You have to be patient with it, but when it grows larger, it becomes very attractive.
